MURRAY'S MAC TEST
By Ivan Speck.
SCOTTISH teenager Andrew Murray steps on to a
stage like no other when he faces John McEnroe at the Superset
Tennis event at Wembley Areana Tomorrow. It will be played over
one set, under flashing lights and with Mac the Mouth able to
call on replays to prove that, even at 45, his eyesight is better
than the line judges.
A meeting with one of the legends of world tennis
will tell us little about Murray's potential. But it may inform
us whether the 17-year old has the temperament for the big occasion.
Intimidation has long been the McEnroe trademark and the American
will no doubt attempt something similiar to upset the youngster
tomorrow when they meet in the jazzy new setting.
McEnroe said: "I've heard a lot about Andrew
Murray but now I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got at
first hand." Greg Rusedski takes on another legend, Boris
Becker, for what organisers hope will be the forerunner to an
annual event.
